During an interview with Bill O’Reilly, which is set to air today, O’Reilly pressed the president regarding his stance on Russia, and Vladimir Putin. However, when the president responded to O’Reilly’s question, what he said immediately put the nation in defense mode.

At the beginning of the clip, which was released on Saturday, a day before the full interview was set to be released, O’Reilly asked the newly inaugurated president if he respected Vladimir Putin. In response, Trump explained, “I do respect him, but I respect a lot of people.” continuing Trump stated, “That doesn’t mean I’m going to get along with him.”

O’Reilly interjected, “But he’s a killer.” Flatly, Trump replied, “There are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers. What do you think, our country’s so innocent?”

And if you think about it, Trump absolutely has a point. The U.S government has just as much blood on their hands as Russia, and for that matter, any other nation. Actually, if you look at the various military engagements the U.S have had their hands in throughout the past ten years, it becomes clear that they may actually have more. From Afghanistan to Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan and even in Somalia.

However, no one wants to hear that. Everyone is suddenly the most patriotic individual alive when Trump merely states his opinion, that was based entirely on facts. Now, I’m not saying that Russia is entirely innocent, either, or that they are the perfect picture of what a government should be. But, Trump is correct in saying that rather than making Russia our enemy, we should strive to work alongside them, or at least have them as an ally.

“He’s a leader of his country and I say it’s better to get along with Russia than not, and if Russia helps us in the fight against ISIS, which is a major fight, and Islamic terrorism all over the world, a major fight — that’s a good thing. Will I get along with them? I have no idea,” Trump said.

Last Saturday, Trump, and Putin discussed cooperation in the fight against Islamic terrorism, and other endeavors as well.

Throughout the past few years, the mainstream media has made Russia out to be the boogeyman that is responsible for all the bad in the world. They even somehow managed to accuse them of influencing the 2016 election and bringing Donald Trump to victory, without providing any substantial evidence to support their claims. Currently, our nation is in enough turmoil, and if Trump can make good on his promise to better relations with Moscow, why wouldn’t we at least try?
